Resetting Enpass to erase data or start over from scratch

If Enpass is performing problematically and other troubleshooting measures don't resolve the issue, or if you have lost your Master Password or your corresponding keyfile, it is possible to reset and/or reinstall Enpass.

NOTE: Enpass stores no user data on company servers — all Enpass your data is under your exclusive control. If you’ve lost your Master Password or keyfile, or the passwords of any of your secondary vaults, your vaults cannot be recovered. You’ll need to start over as a new user, and create new vaults.
If you are using Enpass Business, you may be able to request access recovery from your Admin.

There are three ways to reset Enpass:

  • Erasing all your local Enpass data, but leaving the app installed

    • Deleting local vaults and settings, but retaining vaults stored in cloud accounts

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Enpass

    • Deleting local Enpass data, and deleting the Enpass app

    • Then reinstalling the app, restoring your vaults from your cloud or server

  • Deleting all Enpass data everywhere, and starting over as a new user

    • If you have lost you Master Password or keyfile and/or need to start over from scratch

Resetting Enpass by erasing local Enpass data

To erase your local Enpass data without uninstalling the app:

STEP ONE — Perform a manual sync to ensure your remote vaults are up-to-date:

  1. Go to Settings > Vaults, and select a vault.

  2. Tap Sync Now.

  3. Repeat for any additional vaults.

STEP TWO — Reset Enpass and restore your data:

  1. Go to Settings > Advanced.

  2. Find and tap Erase Everything.

  3. Tap Continue on the warning alert.

  4. Enter your Master Password, and then tap Continue.

  5. Re-add you vaults to your Enpass app.

Resetting Enpass by uninstalling the app, and deleting all Enpass data

To uninstall Enpass from an Android device:

  1. Go to your device’s Settings > Apps & notifications (or in some devices, just Apps).

  2. Find and select Enpass.

  3. Tap the Uninstall button.

  4. Restart your device.

  5. Reinstall Enpass from the Play Store.

  6. Re-add your vaults to your Enpass app.

If you are are also deleting all Enpass data to start over as a new user

If you have lost you Master Password or keyfile and/or need to start over from scratch, you should also remove any vaults stored in your cloud accounts in order to create new vaults:

To delete your Enpass data from Box.com:

  1. Login to app.box.com.

  2. Mouse over the Enpass folder and click ••• (More Options)

  3. Select Trash.

To delete your Enpass data from Dropbox:

  1. Login to Dropbox.com from your desktop browser, or login to the mobile Dropbox app.

  2. In the Apps folder, find and delete the Enpass folder.

To delete your Enpass data from Google Drive:

  1. Login to drive.google.com/drive/settings.

  2. In the sidebar, select Manage Apps, and find Enpass in the list of apps.

  3. Click the Options menu, and select Delete hidden app data.

To delete your Enpass data from iCloud:

There is no direct way to delete Enpass data from iCloud.

Instead, when you set up a new Enpass vault using iCloud:

  1. Enpass will ask for the Master Password of your existing database on iCloud.

  2. Enter an incorrect Master Password three times.

  3. When the Help button appears, select the option to overwrite data on iCloud with a new database.

To delete your Enpass data from OneDrive:

  1. Login to OneDrive from your desktop browser or mobile OneDrive app.

  2. Go to My Files (or just Files on mobile).

  3. In the Apps folder, find and delete the Enpass folder.

To delete your Enpass data from cloud storage using Nextcloud or WebDAV:

  1. Login to your cloud-storage console.

  2. Find and delete the Enpass folder.
